Melomakarona - Greek Honey Cookies

Greek Traditional Honey and Orange  Vegetarian Cookies. Along with the Kourabiedes they are a traditional dessert prepared primarily during the Christmas holiday season. Are incredibly moist, soft and crancy, flavorsome and soaked in a delicious honey syrup. The word “melomakarona” is a combination of the two words “meli”, which means honey and “makarona”. “Makarona” comes from the ancient word “makaria” and means blessed. Historically, melomakarona are thought to be derived from the ancient and medieval makaria, which were eaten during funerals.
